Best Practices
Last Update August, 2025Using METRC
• Always follow METRC guidelines for creating tags and managing inventory to maintain compliance and data accuracy.
• Ensure High Cloud is installed and the correct licenses are registered and active. If you switch computers, you may need to re-download the extension. There’s no extra cost if you’re already signed up.
• Never transfer tags that have been used in production or as source material. Instead, create a new “fan” item before sending it out (as you would for a lab sample). Transferring a production tag removes its history from your METRC account, and that information cannot be retrieved once it’s in another licensee’s system.
• Use consistent data entry practices, including standardized naming conventions, to keep your records clean and easy to analyze.
Search Bar
• The search bar is located at the top right hand of your METRC.

• You can search for tags, manifests or processing job IDs.
Reports
Reports give you a structured view of your data, showing what was produced, consumed, and currently in inventory, as well as how products have moved between facilities. They’re best used to reconcile adjustments, validate production numbers for state reporting, and ensure costs and yields are accurate. Reports help with compliance, COGS, inventory analysis, and long-term planning by surfacing the details you need without manual spreadsheet work.
Dashboards
Dashboards take the same data and make it instantly visual. Instead of combing through line items, you can track production trends, inventory flow, and transfers in real time. Use dashboards to quickly spot anomalies, measure KPIs, and forecast with confidence. They bring together complex information into a format that makes it easier for operators, managers, and accountants to make fast, informed decisions.
